Have you ever wondered what it is like for DJs to post their work on social media? Is it exciting? Is it nerve-wracking? Both can be true at the same time. One video can gather millions of views, while another video can receive negative comments. Social media plays a massive role in DJs creating a presence online. Social media is crucial for DJs because they can reach people across the world, figure out what music is trending, receive instant feedback, and create a name for themselves (Galin, 2025).
I had the opportunity and pleasure to interview Gabby Cooke, a DJ who is a student at Rutgers University. We discussed how social media plays a role in her promoting her brand, the power of connecting with her audience through platforms and creating in a male-dominated field, among other topics. Getting her insight on this topic was beneficial for me in understanding that there is a tight relationship between DJ-ing and social media. Social media isn’t going anywhere. It’s only getting bigger. So, it is a great way for DJs to connect people to their creative work.
